Senator Jim Nielsen is pleased to offer a limited number of internships in his Chico, Roseville and Yuba City district offices to high school juniors and seniors as well as college and graduate students.

Why do an internship?

Internships are great way for you to get exposed and involved in the legislative process, develop job skills, and learn about a variety of industries in California. During your internship, you will have the opportunity to work in a professional environment and build your resume.

Who is Senator Nielsen?

Jim Nielsen was elected in November 2008 to represent the North State's 2nd Assembly District in the State Legislature. In January 2013, he was elected to represent the 4th District in the State Senate. He was re-elected to office in November 2014. A strong fiscal conservative and expert on fiscal policy, Jim Nielsen was named the lead Republican on state budget issues. He had previously served the North State as a member of the Senate and as Senate Republican Leader.

Jim Nielsen's extensive record of leadership and public service makes him one of California's most recognized government reform advocates. Nielsen has proposed hundreds of specific reforms to reform state government regulations and reduce out-of-control state spending. Jim is married to Marilyn and has two daughters, 3 sons, and 3 grandchildren.

What happens in a district office?

Senator Nielsen’s district office is the hub of constituent affairs and outreach, and primarily serves as customer service organization. Th e office’s primary objection is to respond quickly to the needs of the districts’ constituents. The district office staff also is actively involved in the community, working directly with local business and community leaders. Our district office also has an extensive constituent outreach program, responding to a variety of legislative and constituent issues.

What will be required of Senator Nielsen’s interns?

Senator Nielsen is looking for enthusiastic, motivated individuals with a genuine interest in learning more about their government and the legislative process. Interns will perform a wide range of tasked geared toward assisting the Senator and his district staff in serving the 4th Senate district. This includes, but is not limited to, constituent correspondence, research projects, aiding in district office programs, maintaining and operating databases, internet searches, and performing general office duties.
